No one is watching you.

No one is watching you: Transcription

Listen, just because you’re getting fewer orders on Fiverr or Upwork, and you feel like your platforms have drastically slowed down, it doesn’t mean that you have to throw away the chips you are betting on freelancing.

Hey, welcome back to another episode of Cherries On Top. I’m Jess, your host. And this is going to be very, very short, like probably under five minutes.

But if you are feeling like your orders are really low, and you’re not getting as many or any orders that you were getting or hope to be getting, I want you to take that time that you would be working on orders and make it your new free time.

Instead of focusing on these platforms that are taking money from you, I want you to now spend your newly allotted time building a name for yourself as a freelancer, not just on freelancing platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, Legit, Contra, Freelancer, Revolancer, or anything else that is taking a percentage from you.

It’s time that you take this whole branding thing, seriously. Create a new account, on Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, or any platform that fits your energy the best.

Create a new account, and add ‘freelance [plus whatever your skill is]‘ to your bio. Maybe it’s ‘freelance writer’, maybe it’s ‘freelance copywriter’, ‘freelance ghostwriter’, ‘freelance editor’, or ‘freelance publisher’.

Then the next steps are very simple.

I want you to just start talking about what you do.

Talk about what you do, who you do it for, who you do it with, and who you want to be doing it with.

And I know it’s intimidating to talk about what you do. And you may even be feeling like, ‘I don’t know how to explain what I do, I just do it’.

Showing up on social media and building a brand is the best way to learn more about your services and your skills and your business.

And because this can be overwhelming, I want to be the first to tell you to let it be confusing and messy.

Make Mistakes spill your paint.

Because I love you. I love you. And I want to say that first.

But baby, if you are just starting a new account, guess what:

Nobody is watching you. Literally nobody has their eyes on you. Nobody is watching you right now; it is your best time to fuck it up. All of it, all of it.

Your only goal is to show up somewhere besides the platforms that are stealing from you.

Think about if you put all the time that you stay logged in to Fiverr or Upwork and pitching or applying to buyer requests or responding to messages to be top of mind. If you spend all that time building a personal brand through an email list, Instagram, or Tik Tok, talking specifically to clients who you want to be working with…what could your brand look like? If you spent all the time that you’ve been spending on these other platforms, building a brand over there, what if you build a brand for yourself completely off of those apps? Off of those third-party apps that take 10 to 20% of work from you, with clients who don’t even want to hardly pay you anyways?

Start building a brand for yourself, for your business, for your services for your skills. Build a brand that speaks directly to the soulmate clients who you want to have knocking on your virtual door.

And the best way-they the best way-to do that…is to mess it up.

Make it messy, make all the mistakes, then learn from those mistakes.

This is how you build your brand.

It gets to be confusing at first, it gets to be messy, it gets to feel very overwhelming.

Because as you’re building your brand, those things will get clearer, it will make more sense, and your content will align better. Your soulmate clients will be coming to you thanking you so much for showing up messy because it’s how they found you.

And last but not least, remember that this is your journey.

There’s no way to mess it up.

So even if your social media and your branding and all of it feel messy and confusing at first, you’re still not messing it up.

Anything that you do is happening exactly how it’s supposed to be happening. You’re doing it perfectly. It’s okay to be messy because it’s perfect for you. Everything that you’re doing is aligned for you, if you’re intentional about it. So be intentional about taking Messy Action. I’m your Messy Action Mami, we know this, okay? I will always do my best to persuade you to take Messy Action because Messy Action is how things get done.

And if you want to start building a brand, take that messy action and get it started.

You may have no idea what you’re doing right now and that’s okay keep tuning in on Cherries On Top. The first part in showing up online to build your brand is doing it messy making those mistakes learning how you actually want it to be.

That’s all I have for this episode for you. I hope you gained something from it. And if you loved it as much as I love you please share this over to a friend who might benefit from it. And if you don’t know anybody off the top of your head who could benefit from it. That’s okay. Share to your Instagram stories and let your audience decide for themselves. I love you, check the show notes for more information, especially if you want to join Funnel Cake Freelancing and learn how to brand yourself as a freelance writer. Check the show notes to get connected. I’ll talk to you soon. Peace out, Girl Scout.
