you don't have to be good at writing to write good copy

You Don’t Have to Be A Good Writer (Or Love Writing) to Write Good Copy

Imagine writing an email or sales page in half the time without feeling stuck or overwhelmed—

Because no, you don’t have to love writing to be good at it.

If you’ve been putting off writing emails or updating your sales page because you feel like you’re not a “good writer,” you’re not alone.

Whether it’s procrastination, overthinking every word, or doubting your offer, the writing struggle is tooooo real.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to be a great writer to create copy that sells.

In this post, we’ll break down:

  • Why you feel stuck with copywriting

  • The importance of not over-explaining so writing is easy

  • How to (quickly) write your copy with confidence and clarity using three simple strategies

  • What to do if you feel like you’ve tried so many copywriting techniques and still hate writing

  • Next steps for YOU – if you’re ready to simplify your writing process so you can write quicker and sell more without hating it every step of the way

Let’s dive in, starting with a deep-dive into why you’re in this sticky situation as a business owner.

Why Writing Takes You Forrrr-Freaking-Everrrr

You know that feeling when everyone around you seems to be launching, launching, launching?

New courses, offers, and programs are popping up left and right, while you’re sitting there, staring at your Google Doc, unable to get past the blank page.

You open your laptop with every intention of writing that email or updating your sales page, but instead, find yourself scrolling through social media, convincing yourself that you’ll get to it tomorrow.

The problem isn’t that you don’t care about your business—far from it.

It’s just that you hate writing, and procrastination feels easier than facing the blank page.

Then when you finally doooo sit down to write, it takes forever because you feel like you have to explain every little detail.

Every feature of your offer gets a paragraph, and every bonus requires an in-depth breakdown.

You aren’t confident that your words are getting the message across, so you over-explain, hoping that somewhere in the mountain of information, your audience will see the value and click ‘buy’.

But all this overthinking is eating away at your time, making the process exhausting, and what should be a quick task turns into a full day of struggle.

Then comes the line of questioning:

You wonder if your offer is the problem because the sales aren’t rolling in.

You start second-guessing whether it’s what your audience really needs.

But the truth is, it’s not the offer—it’s your messaging.

you have a messaging problem

Your audience is ready to buy—they’re just waiting for you to stop procrastinating and talk about your offer.

If you’re struggling to get words on the page or to communicate your value clearly, your community is probably just as confused.

It’s not that you have to love writing to create good copy that sells, but your hesitation and lack of confidence in your messaging are holding back the results you’re craving.

Here’s how Christina went from “I hate writing” to “Sales from my email on day one!? More, please!!!!”

Christina is an online postpartum health coach for moms. When we started working together in 2022, she was completely stuck with her messaging and often reminded me how much she hated writing.

Creating Instagram reels for her community? No problem. Writing anything that sells offers? No bueno. She’d spend hours working on content…and hardly ever sell.

She knew her offer was a no-brainer for her audience, but getting that across in her copy felt impossible. (And she even tried some popular templates—won’t name names—that made her freaking skin crawl.)

But once we started working together, everything shifted. Christina learned to simplify her messaging, write with confidence, and sell with ease, and now she actually enjoys the writing process, too!

She went from dreading her sales page to rewriting the whole thing in one night—and the results showed up almost immediately (helloooo, sales on day one of her most recent launch!). She started selling directly from her emails by pushing to her uber dreamy sales page, without needing social media at all.

Social media selling is now the cherries on top of her business instead of the hustle and bustle grind that never stopped. More sales, less stress, and way more time with her family.

Now, she’s gearing up for her next launch (currently inside Sell Like A Copywriter for the second time) with the confidence that her messaging is dialed in, and she’s excited to write about her offers.

That’s the power of mastering your messaging—you get more time back, more joy in the process, and more aligned sales.

So, how did she make these changes? Well, every client I work with is different—because different clients and different offers result in different struggles and different copy—but a big part of Christina’s shifts were based on the following ideas. Let’s talk about three specific strategies that YOU can consider to write good copy that sells your offers even if and when writing is the very last thing you want to sit down and do.

By even implementing ONE of these strategies into your business, your results, energy, and flow will be forever grateful and upgraded.

Quick Writing Strategy 1: Give yourself permission to write like sh!t

Here’s the thing…

Nobody sees your messy first draft except you.

Let your writing be messy, quick, and even downright terrible.

I remind my clients all. the. time. that you don’t have to be a good writer to write good copy—

You just have to start.

The key is to get it out of your brain, and then we can clean it up on another day.

Here are a couple things to remember so you can write messy:

  • You Know Your Offer Better Than Anyone: No one—and I mean no one—understands your offer like you do (DUH, because if we did, your offer would be SOLD OUT, right!?). Even the best copywriters don’t have your insight, your passion, or your experience with what you’re offering. Write like you know your offer inside and out, because you do.
  • You Can’t Edit a Blank Page: The biggest reason people procrastinate? They’re trying to get it perfect before they’ve even written a word. The magic doesn’t happen until AFTER you’ve gotten your thoughts on a page and you hit the editing and refining stages. But you can’t edit what’s not there. Once the bones are there, you can always go back and tweak it.

Now, let’s talk more specifically about writing your copy without the ‘high vibe mindset’ or motivation to get it done.

Quick Writing Strategy 2: Sales Page Skeleton

THE most intimidating sales asset creative business owners struggle to write is the sales page for your offer.

So, I created a simple framework for writing your sales page (especially when you haaaaaate writing): The Sales Page Skeleton.

When you think of your sales page starting point as a skeleton, it’s simple to start because you don’t have to include alllll the info everrrr right after opening up a fresh Google do.

Plus, you can get your Sales Page Skeleton barebones written QUICKLY so you can feel accomplished and easily come back and let the remaining information flow on your next writing session.

How to write your Sales Page Skeleton:

  • Summarize Your Offer in One Sentence: Start by writing one simple sentence that explains what your offer is. It doesn’t need to be perfect. Just write one sentence that taglines your offer.
  • Add Your What, Who, How, Why: The bones of your Sales Page Skeleton are the what, who, how, and why of your offer. To write this, think: What is your offer? Who is your offer for? How does your offer work? Why did you create your offer?
  • Organize Your Sales Page Skeleton: Now that you have the bones of your Sales Page Skeleton, outline the flow of your page, from your offer tagline to the final call-to-action. Basically, think about the how you want your soulmate client to get this information. Do they need to know the how or why first? Does the what come before the who? This is also a great time to leave braindump thoughts for each section. Even though your copy isn’t perfect, having your structure in place makes it easier to come back and fill in your details later.

Congratulations! You now have your Sales Page Skeleton, and guess what? You have written enough info to go sell your offer. 🙂

You can stop for the day and pick up here tomorrow, or you can go ahead and start adding in your flare—like more context to these questions, stories, case studies, and personality.

(In Sell Like A Copywriter, you start right out the laptop, working on your sales page using this Sales Page Skeleton framework! Then, you learn how to spice up your sales page with formatting, headlines, case studies, your about section, curated FAQs, and more using my Sales Page Razzle Dazzle Framework. And then you get a Sales Page Audit so you can take it from “eh, at least it’s done” -to-> “Wait! I cannot believe I wrote this—I’m so excited to share this with my community!”)

Quick Writing Strategy 3: Easy Email Framework

You’re spending hours writing one email because you’re inducing all the info instead of staying specific and pushing your sales page.

Instead of going in on a blank page to write emails, use my Easy Email Framework to get email ideas from your brain to page without word vomiting everything you know about your offer.

  • Zero in on One Big Idea: Stop trying to explain everything. Focus on THE key message that your soulmate client needs to hear to step inside your offer. Set the context of your email by naming exactly what you want to discuss.
  • Tell a Story: A relatable, bite-sized story is going to take your message from unread -> SOLD. Whether you share a client case study or your own experience, remember to connect your story to the context of your email.
  • Relate Your Offer: This is where the magic happens, and you make money, honey. Using the context of your email, tie your offer back to the story you shared. Show how your offer solves the exact problem in the story you mentioned.

When you stop overthinking how to write an email and use this quick and easy framework, your emails get written + scheduled quicker, and they get more results (hello, new clients, goodbye, ghosted email list!)

And just to help you even more (bc duhhh that’s what I’m here for)-

Copy/paste this framework into your Google doc so you aren’t starting with a blank page:

  • Context: (I am writing this email to…)
  • Story: (Before, now…)
  • Offer: (My offer solves this by…so you can…)
  • Subject Line:

(And if you love this quick framework, you will ADORE the email strategy + repurposing technique I teach inside Sell Like A Copywriter.)

Some online business owners reading this may think…

What If You’ve Tried Strategies Like These Before…And Still Hate Writing Copy?

I get it—you’ve downloaded copy freebies, paid for copywriting workshops, and tried those so-called “results-driven” templates for your sales pages and emails…

But instead of feeling like you can quickly write copy that converts, they left you cringing and doubting your writing skills even more.

It’s frustrating because so many cOpYwRiTiNg CoAcHeS promise to make things easier, but when they all sound the same, your copy ends up feeling…gross.

Worse, when they don’t work, it feels like the problem is you, when in reality, it’s the resource your using.

This is the exact reason why I created Sell Like A Copywriter in the first place—so you can get specific copywriting tips and techniques in relation to your business to make your offer stand out in your fishbowl-like industry.

So many online peeps (business coaches, I’m eyeing you) are teaching strategies that worked for THEM, but weren’t created with you, your offer, or your business in mind.

In turn, they make you sound like everyone else—and let’s be real, your community is so sick of cookie-cutter offers. And even though your offer is unique af, cookie-cutter copy (that takes you daysssss to write, mind you) makes your offer sound generic af instead.

Your community wants to connect with you, your story, and your voice.

When you focus on your message and learn how to express it clearly (like starting with the Sales Page Skeleton or Easy Email Framework), not only do you stand out, but you begin writing quicker.

As a copywriter and teacher for creative online business owners, the most important work I do is teaching you how to write, sound, and sell like YOU so your offer gets the attention (and clientele) it deserves!

This isn’t just about this one sales page or email sequence either.

Once you learn to write like you, it works for every offer, every launch, and every future email.

The confidence you gain from understanding your own messaging (which is more than just communicating your right-now offer) will save you so much time because you’ll know what works for your audience.

Templates can’t do that, but owning and indulging in your unique voice will.

your community wants you

Writing good copy doesn’t require you to be a “good writer”—

It requires you to take action on writing messy and trusting that know your offer better than anyone else.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure every time you try to write an email or sales page, it’s not because you’re bad at writing.

It’s because templates and overcomplicated fluff-filled advice pull you away from what matters most: your message.

When you focus on writing like you, the process becomes simpler, faster, and more effective.

You’ve learned how procrastination shows up—scrolling instead of writing, over-explaining every detail, and doubting your offer.

But by using simple frameworks like the Sales Page Skeleton and Easy Email Framework (not cringy templates!), you finally get past that blank page.

These tools get your ideas on paper without needing someone else’s words.

And when you give yourself permission to write messy drafts, you’ll find that writing will feel easier and more enjoyable.

The best part?

Once you master your own message, it works for every offer, every launch, and every email in your future.

You’ll write quicker, with more confidence, and see real, aligned sales from your soulmate clients.

Your copy doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be you.

And if you’re ready to take your copy to the next level without hour-long classes, lame templates, or cheap resources so you can quickly write copy that sells your specific offers, I have the perfect next step for you.

Start Sell Like A Copywriter today where you’ll learn how to write your sales page, emails, and content to sell your offers better than a copywriter through quick copy classes (less than 20min each), custom copy audits (of the exact copy you are writing), and 1:1 calls (to get real-time writing support to continue shortening your writing time and strengthening your copy).

You don’t need to be a good writer to sell your offers, but you do not the right strategies for your business to help you simplify your copywriting process. In this program, I teach you strategies specific to your offer so you can become (or stay 😉) the go-to expert for your community.
