How to Write Clear + Actionable Call to Actions (CTAs)

Are you ready to learn how to write clear call to actions for your offers?

Let’s get into it.

If you loved playing schoolhouse or teacher as a kid, especially in the summers, I have some great news for you:

Your call-to-action gets to be bossy, and you’re the one assigning the homework.

So my number one tip for writing your call to actions is this:

Be specific as heck and – dare I say – bossy AF

Asking someone to give you more of their time and energy is a big ask whether that’s to…

  • click the link
  • open their wallet
  • look at their calendar

No one opens up their social media emails or messages to immediately take additional steps (we open to scroll).

So we do not want to leave this up to the reader’s mind.

Instead, we want to tell them specifically what to do

Your offer is unique.

I get that, but there’s always a first or next step.

Do not make your community guess what the next steps are.

Give them clear steps or instructions on what to do next –

So they can use less brainpower to take action.

How to Write Your Call to Actions

Whether your call to action is on your social accounts, in your emails, or linked on your sales page or website…

It needs to be effective.

And it needs to be clear and direct to be effective.

You have to tell your readers exactly what you want them to do next, whether it’s:

  • clicking a link
  • booking a call
  • replying to your email
  • any other action

Providing specific instructions helps guide your community toward the desired action

Which increases the likelihood of their engagement…

This means more problems solved, humans helped, and money in your bank account.

Consider what you want your readers to do when they finish reading your post, email, or sales page.

Do you want them to book a sales call? DM you a keyword? Enroll in your course? Apply for your services? Join your email list?

Once you have this task, think how do they do these things?

  • Do they go to the link in your bio?
  • Do they click your link to text?
  • Do they reply to your email?
  • Do they find your calendar and book directly?

Straightforward vs Juicy Call To Actions

Pending where your call to action is you can either keep a super simple call to action, or make it juicy and dreamy, to really call movement forward.

For example, if you’re adding a call to action to your social media story without much context, you will want to write more of a juicy and dreamy call to action that tells your community:

  • why they want to take this action
  • what this action is
  • what happens right after

And if you’re adding this call-to-action to a sales page, email, or website, you can probably write a simple and straightforward call to action…

Because the rest of the copy provides the information and supports this call-to-action.

You can say ‘click here to enroll’ on a sales page that already discussed your offer’s name, promise, pressure points, and logistical information.

But if you haven’t addressed all of this, when adding your call to action, you’ll want to say something more juicy to address all of this in 1-3 lines.

Straightforward example: Dm for the link 🥰

Juicy example: Are you ready to ABC? Click here to enroll in (this offer) today so you can QRS without XYZ.

Determining Which CTA Is for You

There’s nothing wrong with either of the above call to actions, and they’ll both convert.

But the key here is to pay attention to your supporting information.

You don’t need to add an entire debrief on every single Instagram story or piece of content…

But give your call to action at least one to three lines of context when needed.

Think of your call to action as a reminder of why they want to follow through with this action right now.

Call to Action Examples

Here are some specific call-to-action examples to either get your brain turning, help you build a framework that works for you, or simply to take these call to actions and use them to sell your offers.

First, we will look at straightforward CTAs for when you’re running low on time, have limited space to add your call to action, or are simply ready to get straight to the point.

Then we will look at juicy CTAs for when you want to spice it up a bit.

Quick note:

Anytime that I say offer name, you do not want to put “offer name”.

You want to say your offer name.

5 Juicy CTA Examples

I’ve done the due diligence to create some pretend offers to help you see what these can really be when we:

  • Name our offer
  • Specify why they want to take action in this right now
  • And tell them what happens as they take action

While these still give specific instructions, they add some razzle dazzle to what happens when their community takes action on the next step.

In these examples, the underlined text is the juice, the bold text is the action, and the italic text is the how.

Call to Actions In Conclusion

Your brain is probably already swirling with call to action ideas for your offers..

And I love that for you!!!

As a quick recap, here’s what we covered today:

When writing your call to actions, don’t be afraid to be a little bossy.

This is your business.

Tell people exactly how they can work with you.

You also want to think about the next steps you want your readers to take after they finish reading your content, email, or sales page.

Once they get to the point of your call to action, where do you want them to go from there?

And then, don’t forget to consider all the supportive information or lack of around your piece of content.

If there’s a lot of context already given about your program –

Feel free to keep your call to action simple and straightforward.

But if you need a little bit of razzle dazzle…

Spice it up with a juicy and dreamy call to action that lets your readers know why they want to take this action right now, how to take this action right now, and what happens once they take this action right now.
